Congratulations to Dr. Kao-Shing Hwang, Distinguished Professor of Department of Electrical Engineering, for receiving the 2020 Outstanding Research Award of Ministry of Science and Technology. The honor is awarded annually to those with scientific and technological talents who have shown outstanding research performance and have dedicated themselves to a career of fundamental or applied research to improve the level of Taiwan’s academic research and status in the international community.

Professor Hwang is granted the honor because of his outstanding research on his well-recognized smart robotics research. In the past 5 years, Professor Hwang’s research focus has been the improvement of the sensory-motor control (SMC) of robots; he has been committed to research in smart robot control system design, robot group cooperation system, and reinforcement learning, and has achieved breakthrough research results in the applications of multi-mobility robot dispatch, dual multi-axis robot arm, and compliant industrial robots for manufacturing systems.

Professor Hwang’s research achievement is certainly an ideal fit for the Award. The students, faculty, and staff of National Sun Yat-sen University take great pride in recognizing Professor Hwang for this remarkable accomplishment.
