Six NSYSU Scholars Rank First in Taiwan among the World’s Top 2% Scientists

Six outstanding scholars from National Sun Yat-sen University (NSYSU) have been recognized in the 2025 World’s Top 2% Scientists list released by Stanford University, ranking first in Taiwan in their respective fields. The list, based on Scopus citation data, evaluates scientists worldwide for their research impact and career achievements.

The six NSYSU scholars who achieved the top position in Taiwan are:

  • Chen-Tung Arthur Chen, Chair Professor of Oceanography and Academician of Academia Sinica (Oceanography, ranked 6th globally)
  • Kin-Lu Wong, National Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering (Networking & Telecommunications, ranked 176th globally)
  • Gordon C. C. Yang, Honorary Professor of Environmental Engineering (Strategic, Defense & Security Studies, ranked 202nd globally)
  • Shiao-Wei Kuo, Si Wan Chair Professor of Materials and Optoelectronic Science (Polymers, ranked 208th globally)
  • Cheng-Hsien Li, Associate Professor of Human Resource Management (Social Sciences Methods, ranked 59th globally)
  • Chia-Ying Li, Professor of Information Management (Information Systems, ranked 87th globally)

Their achievements highlight NSYSU’s strength across diverse disciplines—from oceanography and environmental studies to engineering, management, and polymer science—reflecting the university’s strong interdisciplinary research power.

In addition to these six top-ranked scientists, a total of 46 NSYSU scholars were included in the Career Scientific Impact Rankings (1960–2024), and 35 scholars were listed in the Single Year 2024 Scientific Impact Rankings. The listed scholars’ expertise spans 13 major fields and 29 subfields, including Chemistry, Engineering, Information and Communication Technologies, Biomedical Research, and Earth & Environmental Sciences.

President Chih-Peng Li of NSYSU congratulated the honored professors, noting that their recognition in this global ranking underscores NSYSU’s continuous pursuit of academic excellence and its growing international influence in scientific research.
